Student Interview

I applied for the Deloitte off campus drive through AMCAT. Deloitte is a very reputed name in the IT industry, working as an independent firm across the globe and collaborating with other firms in their geographic area. I prepared for the interview through MyGeekMonkey, and that was the best decision I would have made. More than 40-70 % of the questions in the AMCAT paper were from Deloitte Previous year papers, which are available on MyGeekmonkey. The interview process had three rounds, AMCAT test, Deloitte Versant Test, and Face to Face Interview.

Written Round

 In the written round there were three sections, Verbal, Quantitative Analysis, and Logical Reasoning. Deloitte has an unusual, unique marking system for the AMCAT written paper. If the question is submitted in less than 60 seconds than bonus points are given to the candidate. The respective sections were as follows:

  • Quantitative Section– There were 25 questions and the time limit to solve the particular section was 35 minutes. There was an individual sectional cut off 20 questions. The difficulty level of this section was average, as maximum questions were direct formula based.
  • Logical Reasoning– There were 25 questions in this section and the time margin was of 35 minutes. This section was difficult, as the questions were not as direct as in the quants section. The sectional cut-off was 17 correct questions.
  • Verbal– This is the most important section out of all three, as Deloitte focuses and gives preference to English more than any other section. This section was quite difficult, as the difficulty level was high and the time limit was also less, 25 questions in 25 minutes. The sectional cut off of was 19.

Delloite Versant Test

After the AMCAT results were declared, there was a telephonic round known as the Versant Test. For this test, I received an email along with the registration id and the IVR (Interactive Voice Response) number I had to make a call to for the telephonic round from aspiring minds. The telephonic round had six modules, Reading, Listening, Listening Deductions, Grammar, Error Identification, and Speaking.

Module 1 (Reading) – In this section, I had to repeat the 12 sentences which were sent to my mail id. I read in a normal accent and was praying that I don’t stammer.

Module 2 (Listening) – In this section, the IVR recited ten sentences one after the other, and I had to repeat them back. The length of the sentences was quite long.

Module 3 (Listening Deductions) – The IVR played a conversation between two people for 2 min 30 sec. After that IVR asked 5-7 questions related to the conversation. For example, what is the lady talking? Or whom is the man talking to?

Module 4 (Grammar) – This section was like an MCQ round. The IVR asked a question and gave four options from which I had to choose one and answer.

Module 5 (Error Identification) – IVR recites a sentence and I had to find is there any error in the sentence. The common errors were related to an error related to having or had in a sentence.

Module 6 (Speaking) – The topic that I had to speak on was Demonetization. IVR gave me 30 seconds to think and then after the beep sound I had to speak for at least 45 seconds.

After the test was over, the call was auto-disconnected by the IVR. The results of the IVR test were sent to me from Deloitte on my email id. I cleared the test and was eligible for the face to face interview at Deloitte PVT. Ltd. Bengaluru. I had to report at the Bengaluru campus along with the necessary documents:

  • A copy of the updated resume
  • Copy of the interview hall ticket
  • Xerox of all the necessary documents

Face to Face Interview

The interviewer seemed quite nice. He offered me water as I was way too nervous. He went through my resume, and the interview began,

  • Please introduce yourself?
  • What are your hobbies?
  • Do you have any plans for MBA or MTech?
  • Why do you want to join Delloite?
  • Your resume says you like reading, so who is your favorite author?
  • Rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10 by your communication skills?
  • Why should we choose you?
  • Are you fine with relocation?

The interview went well. The interviewer was very generous. I was nervous in the beginning, but as the interview went forward, I gained my confidence back He asked me to submit my documents for further verification’s, and the results will be sent on my registered email id. I received an email after 11 days that I have been selected and have to join as soon as possible. I was selected as the Business Technology Analyst at Bengaluru.

Branch: Computer Science

Type of interview: ON-campus Interview

Student Interview

I am working as the Technology Engineer at the Amdocs Ltd., Pune from 25th October 2016. Amdocs conducted a pool campus drive in our college in May 2016 offering the posts for Technology Engineer and User Interface (UI) Designer. The selection criteria were very straightforward, 60% throughout + no backlogs + 65 percentile in AMCAT. For the AMCAT paper, I referred to MyGeekMonkey.

AMCAT Written Paper

Before beginning the test, we had to choose our domain or branch, as this section was different for all the other departments. The overall difficulty level of the paper was moderate. There were many trick questions in the LRDI section. Later, the final list of the shortlisted students was announced. Out of 380 students, only 150 students were shortlisted to participate in the drive.

Day of the Interview

Though there are two Technical and one HR Round, since the number of students was more, therefore there was one technical and 1 HR. The technical round had more theoretical questions as compared to the practical ones.

Technical Interview I

There were a few questions about my major project, summer internships, certifications, and almost everything I mentioned in my CV. Few questions I remember were:

  • Explain the advantages and disadvantages of external storage class.
  • State three ways to print Exception Messages in JAVA.
  • Draw a flowchart to explain the working of semaphores in JAVA.
  • Explain the Diamond Problem.
  • Who creates the object of the main class in JAVA?
  • Explain in brief about your major project.
  • Why did you choose to do your summer internship in ASP.Net?
  • Key points one needs to remember while making a database.
  • How do you merge three tables in SQL?
  • Is it possible to create column ABC as the primary key in one table and as a foreign key in another table?
  • State the usage of the following functions:
  1. a) ceiling()
  2. b) floor()
  3. c) PI()
  4. d) RAND(()
  • How to check if two Strings are anagrams of each other?

HR Round

It was also the deciding round, as there were only four places to grab and there were 35 students. The HR was checking the confidence, and the pronunciation as well as the presentation skills of the candidate. When my turn came, and I went in, the first question that came up was, “Please introduce yourself.” Later she asked for my CV and was observing every movement of mine. She asked a few questions about my likes, dislikes, hobbies, family background, and my future plans. She also gave me a brief description of Amdocs, and how the work was done there. Their clients, offices, salary package, and finally what exactly they are looking for in a candidate. She asked me a few hypothetical questions to judge if I am capable enough to work in a team or not. With her facial expressions, I could guess that she was quite happy with my answers. She gave me a few puzzles to check my logic and reasoning abilities. In the end, she smiled at me and wished me all the best. I took a sigh of relief when I saw my name in the selected candidate’s list. That was the happiest day of my life.
