Interview Experience

Name: Zahara Khan

College: National Institute of Technology, Bhopal

Branch: Electronics and Communication

Type of interview: OFF-Campus Interview

Student Interview

I applied at the Wells Fargo for the post of Data Analytics in 2017. I saw an advertisement on Linked in that Wells Fargo was organizing an off-campus drive in July. I read all the requirements and the eligibility criteria carefully. I was eligible, so I directly applied through the link they provided. The process took around a week, and after that, I received an email from the company with my AMCAT test date and the details of the test center attached. For the AMCAT paper and the interview, I referred to the mygeekmonkey Dashboard.

AMCAT Written Test

My AMCAT test was scheduled on 22nd June at VIT Chennai. The login and the password for the paper were given at the test center only. It was a 3 hours paper, with five sections Quants, LRDI, Vocabulary, Personality Test, and Electronics and Communication Test. All the sections had almost 15-20 questions except the Personality Test had 90 questions. The test scores were sent to our email ids after we submitted the test. After three weeks of the test, I received an email from the company that my score has been shortlisted and have to come to the Hyderabad campus for further interview rounds.

Face to Face Interview Round

As I reached the Hyderabad Wells Fargo Campus, I was told, that there will be two technical rounds and then there will be an HR Round.

Technical Round I

The first technical round was more comfortable than the second one. In this round, the interviewer asked me questions to check how sound I am with my basics. He asked me fundamental questions related to DBMS, SQL, C++, OOPS, and Java. Some questions he asked were,

  • How do you define a class in JAVA?
  • State 3 major differences between Array List and Vector.
  • Can you restrict inheritance for a class?
  • Explain JSON.
  • Write a query to find the highest salary of an employee.
  • Differentiate between materialized and dynamic view.
  • Explain embedded and dynamic SQL.
  • Differentiate between CHAR and VARCHAR.
  • Define Polymorphism.
  • What is Data Abstraction?

Later, he gave me a sheet of paper and asked to write the code for Fibonacci series and Palindrome. After this, he asked me a few questions about my final year project and my contribution to it. At last, he asked a few questions about my career and why I want to switch in a banking sector? After this, I left, and after half an hour I was called again for the second technical round.

Technical Round II

This round was a panel based, majorly focused on the job profile I was interviewed for. He asked me about how a database is created, how we connect it to the project, ER Diagrams, Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation questions. He gave me a case study and asked me to analyze the graphs, and on that basis, he asked various questions. He asked me to make the database for Wells Fargo with all the tables and the primary, secondary and unique keys assigned. Then he asked a few questions about the company such as what do we do, etc. He gave me certain hypothetical scenarios such as if such xyz scenario takes place how you will resolve it.

HR Round

This round was held after lunch, around 4:00 in the evening. The HR asked me,

  • What do you know about Wells Fargo?
  • Why do you want to join our company?
  • Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
  • Why have you taken a gap between your studies and work?
  • Have you ever worked in a banking sector?
  • Have you thought about doing Mtech?

Then he said let me tell you something about Wells Fargo, “ We are a US based multinational financial services company, who provide banking, mortgage, investing, credit cards, and personal and commercial financial services. We have our headquarters in San Francisco. Our biggest competitors in the market are Citi Group and Bank of America.” Later she gave me a rough database of a company and asked me to make the required changes and explain the changes made. I altered some tables which were not required and made the database more optimized (I guess she seemed impressed). After this, she asked a few more questions about my interests and the CTC. She asked me to wait outside. After 30 minutes the HR asked me to come in. She handed me the offer letter and with a smile said, “Welcome to the Wells Fargo Family.” I took a sigh of relief and accepted the offer letter.
